“I believe luxury products are positioned at the intersection of heart and mind; art and function; life and dreams. I fell in love with a mechanical watch at 17 and decided to make a career out of this passion.” – Junaid Aziz
Having worked for Rolex, Montblanc and Vacheron Constantin in Asia, USA, and Europe he realized that there is more to the luxury industry than business know how. Leading a luxury brand within the framework of a single academic discipline is deficient unless pursued collaboratively with other disciplinary approaches because deep insights into the luxury consumer’s behavior is the best road to astute brand management.
Hence he returned to academia at UPenn with a goal to marry strategy and social science. He pursued this goal by conjoining the study of Globalization with marketing and management courses at Wharton, to blend avant-garde marketing management with a broader liberal arts perspective; the aim being discovery of insightful brand strategies to best leverage the force of globalization and so bringing the future of luxury to the global luxury consumer.
Junaid has worked alongside senior designers and acquired the skills to provide much needed management structure and marketing relevance to the amorphous creative process. In a recent interview he summed up his journey in his own words “As a passionate luxury brand manager in search for soul I found that luxury brand management is more of an art than a science, inherently linked to knowledge, the swaying of feelings, culture and above all curiosity. I could not over look the importance of understanding the rich history of art, my own cultural heritage and the rapid evolution in human thought”.
